Hello Partiers, and Welcome to the French Quarter!
Here in New Orleans we do Mardi Gras right! Mardi Gras is celebrated throughout the world, with each country and city having their own starting time. In New Orleans we need more than just one day to party, here we start the festivities a week prior to and go right up until midnight on Fat Tuesday! As a Mardi Gras jester, Mardi Gras party planning is my specialty.
So what exactly does a jester do in New Orleans you ask? Let me fill you in. I am the Mardi Gras party guide. People from all over come to the French Quarter to celebrate Mardi Gras, and I’m here to make sure that they get the Mardi Gras party that they came for. And I can tell you that no Mardi Gras partier is happier then when they’re catching Mardi Gras beads from the parade floats. Therefore, Mardi Gras beads are a must have at your Mardi Gras party. Pick out Mardi Gras throw beads in every color and style, you can’t go wrong with Mardi Gras party beads like these.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. First things first, why party at all? Mardi Gras (also known as Fat Tuesday) is the day prior to Ash Wednesday, which is the beginning of the Catholic fast Lent. With this in mind, let’s plan the rest of your Mardi Gras party –
Surround your Mardi Gras party guest's with a little bit of mystery with Mardi Gras masquerade masks. Mardi Gras masks are a great way for your guest's to experience the mystical, carnival like atmosphere of Mardi Gras. And don’t stop with the masquerade masks, deck your guest's out with all kinds of Mardi Gras costume accessories like capes, crowns, jester hats, feather boas and more! The crazier the better, because your guest's are there to enjoy a Mardi Gras party.
To capture that carnival atmosphere of New Orleans, you need more than Mardi Gras masks, you need to have captivating Mardi Gras party decorations. Add an authentic New Orleans flare with New Orleans street signs decorations and make sure to represent your favorite party planner (me) with the Mardi Gras Jester. Really, the more Mardi Gras decorations, the better, so go crazy with gold, green and purple!
Of course no party would be complete without food and drinks! Mardi Gras after all is the celebration before fasting, so make sure to have great Mardi Gras party food! All over the world, different foods are favored, some common Mardi Gras food traditions in the US are Polish doughnuts called Paczkis, and king cake. The king cake is a great Mardi Gras food tradition and is easy to decorate in Mardi Gras colors. It is a simple ring of twisted bread, topped with purple, green and gold colored icing. You can also decorate the cake with jester food picks. Serve the king cake or any other Mardi Gras party foods in style with Mardi Gras plates and napkins. Plus, decorate your Mardi Gras party tables with Mardi Gras centerpieces and confetti. And don’t forget the drinks – make your drinks even more fun with festive Mardi Gras cups and straws.
Now I think we have all the basics. Your Mardi Gras party will rival that of New Orleans if you stick to my tips, and if you want more ideas, browse around this one stop Mardi Gras Shop, you’ll find everything you need and more for your Mardi Gras celebration.
